Making a living by selling lottery tickets, sellers have to roam all day, regardless of sun or rain. The work is already hard, and for those with limited health and difficult travel, it becomes even more difficult.
Nearly 20 years attached to the lottery ticket selling profession, Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Dep (40 years old, Hung Phu ward, Can Tho city) said that every day she leaves home at 5:30 am, from Ben Ba to the center of Ninh Kieu ward to sell each lottery ticket. Every day, she takes 20 packs of lottery tickets, each pack of 16 tickets to sell. The work is repeated day after day.
According to Ms. Dep, whether it's sunny or rainy, she still has to sit on a 3-wheeled vehicle to sell. "Some days the rain wets and tears lottery tickets, luckily I meet a loved one, they still help me buy them, even though I know the tickets are torn. On days when I don't sell them all, I have to bear losses," Ms. Dep said.
Ms. Dep recounted that she has been disabled in her legs since childhood, and then suffered from leprosy, so her voice is also difficult to pronounce. Many times when selling and talking to customers, they do not understand.
Each month, she receives more than 700,000 VND in allowances for people with disabilities. Occasionally, when she meets passersby who find her in difficult circumstances, they give her rice to bring home. Her two children, one in 10th grade and one in 3rd grade, are also donated books to go to school.
Touched to tell about her situation, Ms. Dep added that her husband left when the children were young. Since then, she has become the pillar of the family, both selling lottery tickets to earn a living and taking care of her children.
On days when she was sick and tired, she still tried to sell, not daring to take a day off. And only bought a few pills to hold on to continue her work.
Ms. Dep said that because she takes lottery tickets in small quantities, she has not received support from lottery ticket agents or lottery companies before.
Her disabled leg makes it difficult for Ms. Nguyen Thi Gau (72 years old, Ninh Kieu ward, Can Tho city) to walk. Every day, she still uses a cane to sell lottery tickets in the Ninh Kieu wharf area and Tan An market. Every day, she sells about 190 lottery tickets.
Attached to the lottery ticket selling profession for more than 30 years, Ms. Gau said that the job was already difficult, now it is even more difficult due to limited travel.
She shared that at the age of 40, her legs suffered from a stroke-like disease. It has been 32 years now, her legs still affect her walking and she has to take medicine.
Not only facing difficulties in moving, during high tides, her lottery ticket sales are also not much. However, she still tries to go to familiar places to sell "dreams" every day.
