Chu Se district, the pepper capital of Gia Lai province, has thousands of hectares of pepper. In 2017, the People's Committee of Chu Se district invested in building a roundabout at Km1633+450 Ho Chi Minh road (National Highway 14), with a traffic island with a radius of 4m.
This traffic island has a reinforced concrete pillar and foundation structure, with reflective paint on the outside. After that, the construction unit installed additional pepper pillars made of composite materials, combined with a clock to create a landscape.
However, according to the Road Management Office III.4 (Road Management Area III, Vietnam Road Administration), the large radius of the roundabout located in the middle of the National Highway has a high density of vehicles, causing traffic obstruction. This unit requested the People's Committee of Chu Se district to consider the demolition plan.
Mr. Nguyen Toan, a bus driver on the Da Lat - Kon Tum route, said: "The roundabout blocks the road, occupying almost all the path. When a vehicle passes, sometimes having to take a curve near the side is very dangerous and unreasonable".
The representative of the Economic and Infrastructure Department of Chu Se district also commented that the radius of the island is large in traffic while the radius of turn of small vehicles, especially passenger vans, container vans, and trucks. This makes it difficult to move through the roundabout, posing a potential risk of accidents...
Faced with the above shortcomings, the relevant agencies requested the People's Committee of Chu Se district to survey, make estimates and have a plan to dismantle the traffic island with a steering wheel and a clock. This is to minimize the risk of serious accidents.
