A typical case is the case of a couple in Thanh Hoa, in early 2024, because of burning coal to warm up in a closed room, they had an accident, causing the husband to die and the wife to have to go to the emergency room.
Accordingly, after not seeing the couple leave the house to go to work as usual, the neighbors broke the door and found Mr. M.V.H.(born in 1971) dead, and Mrs. P.T.H.(born in 1974) in critical condition, so they were taken to the emergency room.
At the scene, a charcoal stove was found in the bedroom. Authorities believe the cause of the incident may have been suffocation from the stove.
According to the Thanh Thuy District Medical Center, Phu Tho Province, inhaling a large amount of CO gas can cause unconsciousness and death very quickly, especially in pregnant women, young children, and the elderly with chronic heart and lung disease.
According to statistics, 40% of people who are suffocated by CO gas have sequelae such as memory loss, decreased concentration, facial paralysis, abnormal movement, difficulty walking, stiff and shaky limbs, and hemiplegia.
