On March 6, the Riverine Police Team (Traffic Police Department of Dong Nai Provincial Police) received a report about a waterway traffic accident that occurred in the Ghenh bridge area.
At about 10:18 am on March 6th, a waterway vehicle with license plate NB-84xx driven by Mr. P.T. B. (26 years old, residing in Ninh Binh province) was traveling on the Dong Nai River in the direction from upstream to downstream. When it reached the Ghenh bridge area, the column blocking the top of the barge got caught in the surface below the bridge in the middle navigation compartment, causing the vehicle to get stuck in the bridge girder.
At the time of the incident, the tide was simmering. There were about 6 motorbikes and about 6 people traveling on the bridge. Due to strong bridge shaking, the motorbikes fell into the railing, causing 6 motorbike drivers to be slightly injured and received timely first aid.
Immediately after receiving the news, the Riverine Police Team quickly arrived at the scene, coordinated with Road Traffic Police Team No. 1 and the rescue force (Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue Police Department of Dong Nai Provincial Police) to deploy measures to handle and regulate traffic.
Functional forces requested the captain to mobilize water pressure to lower the vehicle, then move the barge across the bridge and anchor it in a safe location. At the same time, the Traffic Police force organized to evacuate people traveling on the bridge to a safe location, and notified Vietnam Railways Corporation to temporarily stop trains passing through the Ghenh bridge area to ensure safety.
Initial records show that the incident caused 6 motorcyclists to be slightly injured; the longitudinal beam running the train at span 2, compartment 5 of Ghenh bridge was bent, deformed, and the railway track was deviated. Specific damage is being inspected and assessed by the railway unit.
Through inspection, the captain and crew members had no alcohol concentration. The initial cause was determined to be that the captain did not pay attention to observation, did not ensure the height of the vehicle when passing through the navigation deck, leading to a collision with the bridge girder.
Currently, functional forces are continuing to coordinate with relevant units to verify and clarify the incident, and at the same time urgently overcome the incident, ensuring waterway and railway traffic safety through the Ghenh bridge area.
