On March 6, Saigon Railway Joint Stock Company reported on the incident of a barge with license plate NB-8437 hitting span 2 of Ghenh bridge Km 1699+860 on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway line.
Accordingly, at about 10:17 am on March 6, a barge with license plate NB - 8437 traveling from upstream to downstream collided with Ghenh bridge (large Dong Nai bridge) Km 1699+860 in Bien Hoa ward, Tran Bien ward, Dong Nai province, causing the structure on the bridge to be displaced, the largest point up to 50cm.
After receiving information, Bien Hoa Bridge was present at the scene, and at the same time reported to superiors, requesting to blockade the Bien Hoa - Di An section at 10:26 am to ensure train safety.
Leaders of Saigon Railway Joint Stock Company and professional departments urgently arrived at the scene to direct handling, and at the same time notified and coordinated with local functional agencies to resolve the incident.
Dong Nai province's functional forces quickly arrived at the scene to direct the handling of the incident.
Through initial inspection, it was recorded: The subgrade of span 2, compartment 5 was severely deformed, the direction on the bridge deviated the most by 50cm, the bridge bearings were shifted, 2 people riding motorbikes on the sidewalk were injured (1 person with a broken arm, 1 person with scratches on the face).
Initial assessment shows that the structure of Ghenh bridge is heavily damaged, posing a serious risk to the safety of the project and train operations.
To promptly handle the case, Saigon Railway Joint Stock Company has requested Vietnam Railways Corporation to direct the design consulting unit to organize a comprehensive inspection and examination of the Ghenh bridge structure to assess the extent of damage and propose handling plans; Direct Railway Transport Joint Stock Company to proactively develop a plan to transfer passengers and goods, ready to deploy when necessary.
Also on March 6, the Vietnam Railways Authority sent a report to the Ministry of Construction about the barge collision with Ghenh bridge Km1699+860 on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway line. Railway transport damage as of 13:00 on March 6, train SE22 was stopping at Di An station and running to Saigon station to return tickets to passengers and disband train SE22 along with trains SE10 and TN4.
Immediately after receiving information about the incident and the extent of damage, leaders of Vietnam Railways Corporation directly inspected the actual site to direct design consulting units, inspection consulting units and relevant agencies and units to inspect, assess the extent of damage and develop an incident handling plan, passenger transport plan, ensuring project safety, and railway transport safety.
According to reporters of Lao Dong newspaper, on the afternoon of March 6, functional agencies are conducting scene examination and ship examination to investigate and verify the cause of the incident.
Dong Nai Lon bridge (Ghenh bridge), Km1699+860, Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway line is a grade I railway bridge, total bridge length: 239.2m, including 3 curved steel truss spans, each span length 76.2m. The bridge was newly built in 2016 to replace the old bridge that was collapsed by a barge.
