National Highway 15 through Ha Linh commune is about 15km long, with a scale of a grade III mountainous road with a 9m roadbed and 8m road surface. The width of the road surface is only enough for 2 lanes for motor vehicles, there is no lane for rudimentary vehicles.
The narrow road along with the mountainous terrain and many curves has high potential for traffic accidents.
Mr. Bui Ngoc Du - Chairman of Ha Linh Commune People's Committee - said that recently, National Highway 15 through Ha Linh Commune has had many serious traffic incidents. From the beginning of 2025 to now, there have been 5 accidents that have killed 4 people.
The most recent was the accident that occurred on February 15 between a car and a motorbike, killing two grandmothers and grandchildren on the motorbike.
According to Mr. Du, National Highway 15 has many locations with curves and narrow road surfaces, while many vehicles do not move at high speeds, leading to traffic accidents.
To minimize traffic accidents, improving traffic infrastructure such as expanding road surfaces and improving sharp turns is very important. In addition, it is necessary to raise awareness of traffic participation, the authorities need to increase patrols and strictly handle cases of speeding, reckless overtaking, and encroaching on lanes when participating in traffic, said Mr. Du.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nam - Head of Traffic Department No. 6 also said that there are many factors leading to complicated traffic accidents on National Highway 15 through Ha Linh commune.
That is the narrow road surface, with many dangerous turns, often causing fog, while the traffic volume is high, especially tractors, containers, trucks with Lao national emblem...
At the same time, the awareness of obeying traffic laws of a number of traffic participants is not high, especially the situation of cars encroaching on lanes, recklessly overtaking, while motorbike drivers do not wear helmets, going in the wrong direction...
Currently, the National Highway 15 management unit is coordinating with the Traffic Police Department of Ha Tinh Police and local authorities to review the shortcomings on the route to recommend competent authorities to implement solutions to curb and reduce traffic accidents on the route.
Mr. Nam said that in the context of traffic infrastructure not keeping up with the increase in motor vehicles, traffic participants need to voluntarily and strictly comply with traffic safety regulations such as driving at the right speed, not driving when using alcohol, not encroaching on lanes, reckless overtaking.
