Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Tiep, Head of the Traffic Police Department of Lam Dong Provincial Police, said that he initially determined that the motorbike was traveling on the right priority road (green light) while the ambulance ran a red light, causing the accident.
The motorbike driver was N.N.A (17 years old), without a driver's license and underage to drive a motorbike over 50cc.
The driver of the ambulance with license plate 49B - 1225 was Mr. Vu Van Cuong (52 years old), residing in Loc Thang town, Bao Lam district.
Although it was a priority vehicle, carrying patients and accompanied by a nurse, at the time of the accident, the ambulance driven by Mr. Cuong did not turn on the lights and the priority horn.
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper reported that the traffic accident occurred at 12:05 on the same day at the intersection of green and red lights on Dao Duy Tu - Nguyen Dinh Chieu streets (Loc Phat ward, Bao Loc city).
Images recorded by a vehicle show: At that time, an ambulance with license plate 49B - 1225 driven by Vu Van Cuong (52 years old, residing in Loc Thang town, Bao Lam district) was traveling on Dao Duy Tu street in the direction from Loc Phat ward People's Committee to Bao Loc city center.
When arriving at the Dao Duy Tu - Nguyen Dinh Chieu intersection (there were 6 seconds of red light), the ambulance overtook a number of vehicles that were stopping at red lights here, moving through the intersection.
At this time, a motorbike driven by Mr. A (17 years old, residing in Loc Phat ward) traveling on Nguyen Dinh Chieu street (when signaling a blue light) crashed straight into the side of an ambulance.
The accident caused the motorbike to have a deformed front, Mr. A was seriously injured with a broken thigh and a head injury.
