During the heavy rain at noon on May 24, many passengers when arriving at the T3 terminal - Tan Son Nhat International Airport were surprised to see rainwater flowing down from the roof, leaking at the terminal to the T3.
According to the clip recorded by local residents, water flowed continuously in the area near the check-in counter and the luggage handling strip, affecting the experience of passengers.
Previously, on May 7, a similar phenomenon had also occurred in the plane waiting area. Although the contractor later confirmed that it had been fixed, the leakage situation when heavy rain occurred continued to recur.
Not only the water leaked, some construction items in the terminal were also reported to be unfinished, especially the stone foundation in the waiting hall. Many locations have peeling facility, uneven tiles or patchwork, causing loss of aesthetics.
Responding to the press, the representative of the T3 station contractor said that due to the urgent progress in order to make the station into operation as planned, some auxiliary items, including the stone foundation, must continue to complete after the station exploited. Up to now, about 50% of the foundation has been constructed. The contractor pledged to complete the entire stone background before June 30, including the plastering, elastic glue pump, grinding and polishing the background.
Because the project has been put into operation, the construction is carried out at night (from 0:00 to 3:00 am) to avoid affecting flight operations. The contractor hopes to receive sharing from passengers and investors.
Tan Son Nhat T3 Terminal has a total investment of more than VND 11,000 billion, started construction at the end of 2022 and inaugurated on April 19, 2025, 2 months ahead of schedule. The terminal has a designed capacity of 20 million passengers/year and is expected to reduce the pressure on Terminal T1, which has been overloaded for many years.
