On August 24, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Ngan Van Hanh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Muong Min commune, Thanh Hoa province - said that the locality and functional forces have overcome the landslide point on National Highway 16, the section passing through Bon village. According to Mr. Hanh, due to prolonged heavy rain for many days, on the morning of August 24, soil and rocks from the positive slope suddenly slid down National Highway 16, the section passing through Bon village.

Dozens of cubic meters of soil and rocks along with trees spilled down, blocking the road surface, causing traffic through the area to be congested, and vehicles could not circulate.

Immediately after the landslide occurred, the locality and functional forces mobilized manpower and machinery to handle it. After about 2 hours of urgent remediation, the landslide point was temporarily handled, and traffic was normal" - Mr. Hanh said.

Immediately after that, local authorities were present, supporting the family to evacuate to a safe place, and at the same time mobilizing forces and vehicles to collect soil and rocks that flooded into people's houses.

Currently, there are still heavy rains in the area. The locality is continuing to monitor weather developments, review and assess areas at risk to promptly deploy plans to respond to heavy rain and landslides" - Mr. Hanh informed.
