Immediately after the representative of the 5-star hotel and serviced apartment complex A La Carte Ha Long said that they had not received compensation from the insurance company, many business owners in Quang Ninh also spoke up about this issue.
A La Carte Ha Long is one of the most severely damaged accommodation and service establishments in storm No. 3, with total damages amounting to hundreds of billions of VND. Immediately after the storm, insurance companies came to inspect the scene and assess the damage.
Mr. N.V.S - Director of a 4-star hotel with more than 100 rooms in Bai Chay, Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province - said that nearly 1 month after storm No. 3 passed, he still has not received payment from the insurance company.
To repair the hotel, the unit had to pay in advance, without waiting for insurance because every day it was delayed in getting it back into operation would mean more damage.
"Currently, we are still working with the insurance company to agree on the damage caused by storm No. 3," said Mr. N.V.S.
According to a representative of an insurance company branch in Quang Ninh, assessing damage is always a headache, especially for large projects and assets, and in many cases, the "scene" is greatly disturbed due to the strong storm.
“In addition to the staff of the branch, the General Company in Hanoi also sent more personnel and invited independent monitoring units to join in. However, too many customers suffered damage due to storm No. 3 so it cannot be done quickly. Moreover, the damage assessment must be done very carefully to ensure the interests of all parties,” he said.
During the recent storm No. 3, Sun World Ha Long Amusement Park and Ha Long International Passenger Port suffered quite heavy damage and the leaders of insurance companies were present immediately after the storm to coordinate in overcoming the consequences.
However, up to now, the management units of these two projects have only received partial advances for the remedial work. Currently, the parties are still completing the damage declaration file so that the insurance company can determine the extent of the loss and the compensation rate according to regulations.
Mr. Doan The Xuyen - Director of Phuc Xuyen Company Limited - said that storm No. 3 caused damage to the factory and several passenger cars, with the total damage according to the company's calculation being more than 3 billion VND.
“The insurance company has come to work and will continue to assess the damage to agree on the loss ratio. Our damage is small compared to other establishments and those damages are easy to measure and count. However, we must also sympathize with the insurance companies, because normally, each insurance payment review takes 1-2 months, but here there are too many customers suffering losses at the same time,” Mr. Xuyen shared.
According to representatives of some insurance companies, paying insurance money to private businesses and units is difficult, but it is even more difficult for state units.
Because, after the parties agree on the amount of damage and compensation rate, for state projects, the construction and repair must go through bidding before the insurance company will pay.
Currently, in Quang Ninh, there are representatives of 23 insurance companies, the largest of which are still representatives of Bao Viet Insurance Corporation.
According to estimates, in Quang Ninh alone, customers of Bao Viet Quang Ninh and Bao Viet Dong Bac (2 member units of Bao Viet Insurance Corporation) suffered quite heavy damage in storm No. 3, with 238 compensation cases recorded by the above 2 units, the total initial estimated compensation amount is 573 billion VND. The customer losses mainly include: cars, houses, construction works, factories, warehouses, machinery and equipment, wharves and goods.
