Many vehicles stalled, many people had to stand on the side of the road, waiting for the water to recede. Many people tried to cross the water, but just a few meters later they had to walk, some even fell and collapsed due to potholes.
"This morning, I thought I would go early to avoid traffic jams, but in the end, I had to walk nearly 1 km to find a place to fix it, so I was late for work" - Mr. Lam, a pedestrian, said.
Ms. Cam Tho (formerly living in Go Vap) said that riding a motorbike on Phan Huy Ich Street to her workplace encountered deep flooding, the motorbike stalled, and she had to walk to find a place to repair it.
Not only causing difficulties for traffic, the flooding also caused heavy damage to business households. Ms. Phan Kim Luyen - owner of an aluminum glass factory on Phan Huy Ich Street - said that this was the heaviest flooding since the beginning of the year.
"From 3am, the thunder was already very strong, checking and seeing that the road was not flooded, but just a moment later, the water had flooded into the house. Although the whole family tried to carry the machinery and furniture to higher ground, they still couldn't keep up. All machinery and equipment were soaked in water and damaged," Ms. Luyen shared.
At more than 8:00 a.m., the road was still deeply flooded, traffic through the area was chaotic, causing many people to be late for work.
According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, in the next 0-3 hours, thunderstorms will continue to develop, causing showers, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in the areas of Ho Chi Minh City and the South, then expanding to other neighboring areas.
The cause of thunderstorms is due to the southwest monsoon in the Southern region operating at an average intensity. Wind convergence exists in the area.
It is forecasted that in the coming days, the Southern region will continue to have widespread heavy rain.
