As Lao Dong reported, the heavy rain on the night of July 31 and early morning of August 1 caused flash floods and terrible landslides, causing heavy damage to people and property in many mountainous communes of Dien Bien province.
Faced with such losses, in recent days, from all over the country, organizations, unions and many volunteer groups have not hesitated to travel far, bringing relief goods to share difficulties with people in flooded areas.
However, due to the impact of consecutive rains in early August, many sections of the road continued to subside and collapse, causing the separation of villages from the commune center.

Present at the gift-giving point of Hang Pu Xi village (Ha Dung commune, Dien Bien province), Ms. Giang Thi Mi (67 years old, Hang Tro village, Xa Dung commune) said: "I started walking at 7am, and it was almost 10am before arriving. The road is eroded so it is only possible to walk. Everyone in the family had to take turns getting the goods. Receiving gifts from benefactors, the people are very happy and grateful".
The road from Hang Trao village to Hang Pu Xi village is more than 10km long, which was already difficult to travel, but now it is even more difficult when buried by rocks and soil. Talking to Lao Dong, Mr. Ho A Vu (30 years old) - Head of the Front Committee of Hang Trao village - said that because the road to the village has not been cleared, all people have to walk to the gathering point to receive relief goods.

"Hang Tra village has 74 households with more than 440 people, 100% of whom are Mong ethnic people. The roads are all broken, motorbikes cannot travel. But to receive support, people also tried to walk more than 10km down here. Priority is given to receiving goods for households with heavy damage to houses and crops" - Mr. Vu informed.
Not only pedestrians, many other people also have to choose routes that are twice as long to be able to access the gift-giving point.

Mr. Lau A Thanh (28 years old, Tao Xa A village, Xa Dung commune) said that he had to travel by motorbike for a detour of more than 20km to receive gifts at the Phi Nhu gas station intersection (Trong Su A village, Xa Dung commune). Meanwhile, if you follow the route as usual, the distance is only over 10km.
Although the journey was difficult, everyone was warm-hearted. "Receiving the care and gifts of benefactors, people feel happy and comforted a lot" - Mr. Thanh said.

With experience in organizing charity trips since 2017, Mr. Ha Minh Tan (28 years old, Nhan Ai Fruit Club of Phu Tho province) affirmed that relief in flood and disaster areas is quite dangerous. Therefore, charity groups must be highly vigilant.

Currently, the Dien Bien Department of Construction continues to direct road management units and related units to focus all human resources, machinery, and equipment to carry out traffic assurance work according to the 4 on-site motto "on-site command, on-site forces, vehicles, materials, on-site logistics" to minimize the consequences.
In recent days, floods and landslides in the North Central and Northern mountainous provinces have killed and left many people missing, houses, schools and maple blossoms were swept away and submerged in mud, affecting local production activities.
