Phu Quoc is entering the Northeast monsoon season, a time when big waves sweep away many waste drifting from the open sea to the shore. The islands in An Giang unintentionally welcome piles of garbage "falling from the sky".
In areas where garbage drifts to the shore in Phu Quoc, tourism service businesses have proactively arranged cleaning forces to be on duty to clean up, without affecting tourists.
In the seawall area at Dinh Cau beach, it is also becoming an unwilling garbage collection point. According to records, the amount of garbage trapped in rock crevices and the foot of the embankment is very large and diverse. From styrofoam boxes, plastic food boxes, plastic bottles... more worryingly, there are also decomposing animal carcasses.
Faced with that situation, a group of volunteers from Phu Quoc Clean and Green Club in coordination with the Phu Quoc Garbage Love Association organized cleaning in the seawall area of Dinh Cau beach.

Mr. Tran Van Sanh, Chairman of Phu Quoc Clean and Green Club, said: "In the afternoon, walking to Dinh Cau, I saw garbage piling up very uncomfortably. From then on, members of the group organized to clean up this area.
Cleaning up garbage in this area has a difficult point, which is the rocky, slippery terrain, garbage stuck in pits is very difficult to collect, but the volunteer team is very determined with the desire to clean up the beach. We also hope that people and tourists can raise their awareness more, minimize or best of all, not use disposable plastic items. Each person's contribution will add a part to make our islands and seas greener, cleaner, and more beautiful," Mr. Sanh expressed.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Hanh, a member of the Phu Quoc Garbage Love Association, also shared: "I regularly participate in garbage collection activities at beaches or public areas like this. There is a lot of garbage here, especially in this windy season, it's even more crowded. I also hope that the act of collecting garbage to clean up the beach will spread to many people, so that they can see the importance of protecting the environment in Phu Quoc.
Not only people living and working on the island participate in picking up garbage, but even tourists visiting also contribute their efforts. Mr. Nguyen Huu Kien, a tourist from Ninh Binh, said that he swiped on his Facebook page and saw this extremely meaningful activity, so he registered to participate.
Each tourist and people on our island must be responsible for preserving and making the pearl island green, clean, and beautiful. Not only in the present but also continuing to develop further in the future, towards sustainable green tourism and also protecting our own lives," Mr. Kien expressed.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Loan, Vice Chairwoman of Phu Quoc Special Zone People's Committee, the locality has had many programs to call on officials, people, and tourists to join hands to maintain environmental sanitation, clean up the beach and receive enthusiastic response.
The Special Zone has deployed daily sweeping, collection and transportation of waste, arranged more trash cans, collected clean, on time, and not allowed garbage to be left behind. In addition, additional workers and electric vehicles are arranged to regularly inspect and handle hot spots on key roads. Arrange 1 garbage collection team in Dinh Cau beach area, Bach Dang park embankment, Dinh Cau wave barrier. However, in the windy season, the amount of garbage collected will be more difficult to control, so they coordinate with businesses and business households along the coast from Dinh Cau to Long Beach area to bring vehicles to transport garbage collected along the beach to the shore.
In addition, it is also necessary to build a sense of responsibility of people, tourists and businesses in maintaining urban hygiene and order on roads and beaches. Thereby sending the message of Phu Quoc green - clean - beautiful and Tourism Civilization," Ms. Loan added.
