Many northern mountainous provinces suffered heavy damage due to floods

Prolonged heavy rains caused flooding, flash floods and serious landslides in many northern mountainous provinces. Thousands of houses, crops, and livestock were affected; many areas were isolated, traffic was paralyzed, and damage was severe.

From the night of June 20 to the early morning of June 23, Thai Nguyen experienced prolonged heavy rain. Record rainfall at Phuc Tri station reached 742.7mm, Nui Coc Lake 536mm, Binh Son (Song Cong) 265mm. On the night of June 21, the water level of Cau River exceeded alert level 3.

Prolonged heavy rain and rising floodwaters caused many localities to be partially flooded. According to statistics from the authorities, the whole Thai Nguyen province has nearly 130 flooded spots.

In the center of Thai Nguyen City, Minh Cau, Hoang Gia, San Nen, Luong Ngoc Quyen streets were flooded from 40 to 70cm. Hundreds of vehicles were stuck and stalled at night. In low-lying areas near the Cau River bank, many households were forced to evacuate due to rising water. The whole city has 19 communes and wards partially flooded.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa (Minh Cau ward, Thai Nguyen city) said: "The past few days have been continuously raining, my family is in a low-lying area, so we have to move our belongings up high, then stay at my sister's house".

Heavy rain also caused widespread flooding in Song Cong City and Pho Yen City. Trai Ngua spillway connecting Binh Son and Ba Xuyen communes, the suspension bridge over the Cong River was swept away by floodwaters, causing traffic disruption.

According to statistics from Thai Nguyen authorities, the prolonged flood caused widespread flooding. In Thai Nguyen, 1 person died due to flash floods. Tens of thousands of livestock and poultry were swept away, more than 430 hectares of crops were flooded. Many livestock farms in the Song Cong were severely damaged.

Thai Nguyen province has mobilized more than 1,900 officers and soldiers of military, police, militia and self-defense forces along with 12 motorboats and 16 specialized cars to support people in evacuating from flooded areas. Organize checkpoints and warnings at cut off traffic routes.

In Lang Son, heavy rains in recent days have caused heavy damage, especially in Bac Son district. Many areas in the district were deeply flooded, of which Nhat Tien commune was the most severely affected with dozens of households isolated, assets and crops submerged in water.

Faced with the emergency situation, on the night of June 22, Lang Son Provincial Police mobilized nearly 60 officers and soldiers along with 3 specialized vehicles and 4 motorboats, coordinating with local forces throughout the night to approach the isolated locations.

That same night, the work of evacuating people, transporting assets and supplying food was urgently deployed. Localities facing severe flooding such as Long Dong, Van Thuy, Tan Lap, Tan Thanh, Nhat Tien, Tran Yen, Dong Y communes.

Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, Ms. Phung Thi Thanh Nga - Chairman of Bac Son District People's Committee - said that up to now, floods have injured 2 people, including 1 child.

Damage to houses and property, 18 houses were damaged, 13 houses were flooded. Over 506 hectares of agricultural areas were damaged, landslides appeared in some locations on National Highway 1B and district and inter-commune roads, causing congestion.

In Huu Lung district (Lang Son), Mr. Nguyen Trung Nhan - Secretary, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nhat Tien commune - said that heavy rain caused the river water to rise, causing isolation in a village in the area.

"The cut-off affects about 154 households. Fortunately, people are still able to proactively buy food and provisions, and can also row their own boats to buy things. It is expected that the water will recede in about 1-2 days," the leader added.

Meanwhile, floods also caused heavy damage in Bac Kan, Tuyen Quang, and Ha Giang provinces. Prolonged heavy rain caused moisture in the soil to be saturated, and landslides caused the death of a woman in Ba Be district. The whole of Bac Kan province had 236 houses flooded and damaged. Many roads were eroded with a volume of 5,700m3; 358.7 hectares of agricultural and aquatic products were seriously affected.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Kan province issued Official Dispatch No. 05/CD-UBND requesting departments, branches, sectors and localities to urgently deploy measures to respond to heavy rain. Ensuring the safety of people's lives and minimizing property damage.

On the morning of June 23, 6 households in Group 16, Song Cau Ward (Bac Kan City) were evacuated. Prolonged heavy rain caused cracks to appear in the hill behind the houses, posing a risk of landslides.

In Tuyen Quang, dozens of houses in Lam Binh district were flooded due to rising floodwaters. Landslides at Keo Nang Pass and inter-commune roads caused local congestion.

Currently, localities are making efforts to overcome the consequences, mobilizing maximum human resources to ensure traffic and stabilize people's lives.
