Many schools cannot yet welcome students
On September 21, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hao - Chairman of Kim Tan Commune People's Committee, Thanh Hoa province, said that prolonged rain and floods in recent days have caused many villages in the commune to be deeply flooded.
Up to now, the floodwaters have receded, residential areas and villages have carried out post-flood cleanup, with the motto "clean up to where the water recedes. There are still 2 schools in the area that cannot welcome students back to class because the floodwaters have not receded completely" - Mr. Hao informed.
According to Mr. Hao, the 2 school sites include Thach Dinh branch and Thanh Truc branch of the kindergarten, with a total of hundreds of students who cannot return to class.
At Thanh Truc branch, from September 20, teachers have been urgently cleaning up after the flood. Meanwhile, at Thach Dinh branch, floodwaters have not yet receded completely. Teachers are cleaning up according to the motto "clean up to where the water recedes".
It is expected that on September 22, the cleaning work can be completed, ready to welcome students back to class" - Mr. Hao informed.
Similar to Kim Tan commune, in Nong Cong commune, there are still 2 schools flooded, unable to welcome students back to class.
Representatives of the leadership of Nong Cong Commune People's Committee said that as of the morning of September 21, there were still 2 school branches in the area that could not welcome students back due to the impact of floodwaters.
Specifically, at Nong Cong Secondary School - Minh Nghia branch and Nong Cong Primary School - Minh Nghia branch, with a total of hundreds of students who cannot return to school.
Currently, local authorities, schools and people are urgently deploying cleaning and sanitation work for schools after the flood. When conditions are ensured, schools will organize to welcome students back to school.
Talking to PV of Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Hoang Van Thang - Principal of Dong Tien Secondary School said that after implementing the arrangement of administrative units, the school currently has 3 school sites, including the main school site in Dong Tien commune and 2 school sites in Dong Thang and Dong Loi communes.
At 2 school sites in Dong Thang and Dong Loi communes, after the floodwaters receded, students returned to normal schooling. However, at the main school site in Dong Tien commune, by the morning of September 21, the water was still about 70-90cm deep, including the office area, making teaching and learning activities impossible.
Faced with the above situation, the school has reported to superiors and continues to let students at the main school site take leave from school. From September 17 to now, 642 students here have had to take temporary leave due to the impact of rain and floods.
Currently, the water in the school area is receding very slowly, it is likely that students will not be able to return to school until the end of this week. After teaching and learning activities are restored, the school will develop a plan to organize compensatory teaching, ensuring the learning program for students" - Mr. Thang said.
Schools urgently overcome the consequences of floods
On the morning of September 21, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Duong Minh Anh - Chief of Office of Thanh Hoa Department of Education and Training (GDĐT) said that in recent days, floods have caused some schools in the province to be flooded, and students have to temporarily take leave from school to ensure safety.
On the last two days of the week (September 19 and 20), immediately after the floodwaters receded, officials and teachers of the schools urgently deployed work to overcome the consequences, clean up mud and soil, and sanitize classrooms to welcome students back soon.
In particular, with the active support of the army, police and local people, many schools quickly cleared mud, rearranged tables and chairs, equipment, and ensured conditions for organizing teaching and learning.
According to Mr. Anh, by the morning of September 21, teaching and learning activities at schools in the province have basically been restored. However, some schools still have to both organize teaching and continue cleaning and sanitation to ensure a clean and safe learning environment for students.
Regarding the damage caused by floods to educational institutions, Mr. Anh said that the Thanh Hoa Department of Education and Training is requesting schools to review, statistics and fully report on the damage situation of facilities and teaching equipment.
Based on the reports of the units, the Department will summarize and assess the extent of damage, propose timely support plans to help schools overcome difficulties and stabilize teaching and learning activities.
