On December 28, the People's Committee of Dien Bien district coordinated with the Military Command of Dien Bien province to organize the inauguration ceremony and handover of support houses to families affected by flash floods in Muong Pon commune.
Present at the Huoi Ke residential area, Linh village, Muong Pon commune, the bustling and excited atmosphere was reflected on the faces of each resident when new, spacious houses were built.
After difficult days, the people here now have a solid home - 71 affected families were supported by the Ministry of National Defense with 50 million VND/household to build new houses. To date, 42 houses have been completed, 29 houses are under construction and are expected to be completed before Tet 2025.
Mr. Trang A Di - Head of the Huoi Ke residential group - excitedly said: "At first, we were worried when moving to the new resettlement area. However, thanks to the enthusiastic help of the soldiers, our houses were completed quickly and are much more spacious than before."
According to Mr. Di, the Huoi Ke resettlement area has brought a new life to 124 people of 17 households, making them happier before the new year. In particular, moving closer to the commune center has become more convenient, creating favorable conditions for children to go to school.
As one of the households receiving the new house, Mr. Sung A Cho – said that since the electricity was installed, the house has changed a lot, the new house is bright, the family has bought a TV, a refrigerator and installed internet. “My family is very happy to move to this new house. It is wonderful that our lives have changed a lot” – Mr. Cho said.
Located only 1km from National Highway 12, Huoi Ke resettlement area is fully equipped with electricity and clean water, helping people feel secure in settling down - these are conditions that their previous residence did not have.
Teacher Mac Thi Sam - Principal of Primary School No. 2 in Muong Pon Commune - said that at the residential area of Huoi Ke, there are 20 students studying at the school. Previously, the distance from the old residence to the school was very difficult because they had to go through the forest.
“Previously, boarding students went to school on the weekdays and returned on the weekends. Now that they have moved to the new resettlement area, they will be able to study near school and travel very easily,” said Ms. Sam.
Mr. Pham Duc Toan - Permanent Vice Chairman of Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee - said - with the joint sharing of the whole community, Muong Pon people have made extraordinary efforts to overcome difficulties, in order to have a new house in time to celebrate the traditional Tet of the nation.
“To restore life to the way it was before the flood, it requires more effort from the people. From there, we can stabilize life and develop sustainably,” Mr. Toan emphasized.
The flash flood that occurred in Muong Pon commune, Dien Bien district, Dien Bien province at the end of July left behind extremely serious consequences. 86 houses were damaged, of which 20 were completely damaged; 6 houses were damaged from 50-70%; 16 houses were damaged from 30-50% and 44 houses were damaged less than 30% but were at risk of being unsafe. Currently, Dien Bien district has implemented 5 projects to stabilize and relocate 74 households.
