Dien Bien - After nearly 5 months of the historic flash flood, new, spacious and modern houses have sprung up at the flood center of Muong Pon.

The flash flood that occurred in Muong Pon commune, Dien Bien district, Dien Bien province at the end of July left behind extremely serious consequences. A total of 86 houses were damaged, of which 20 were completely damaged; 6 houses were damaged from 50-70%; 16 houses were damaged from 30-50% and 44 houses were damaged less than 30% but were at risk of being unsafe.

With great determination, the project of stabilizing the population of Huoi Ke residential area in Linh village, Muong Pon commune is about to be put into use. In just over a month, 17 spacious houses have sprung up on the new land.

The project has a total investment of 1.5 billion VND, from the local budget at the district level in 2024 and other sources of capital. At Huoi Ke residential area, the infrastructure has been deployed including: Leveling the foundations of residential lots within 8m from the edge of the roadbed; The road surface with a total length of over 200m is made of cement concrete; Water supply from 2 drilled wells is pumped to a centralized tank; A 0.4kV power system has been installed.

Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, Mr. Trang A Di - Head of Huoi Ke residential area group excitedly said that the resettlement work for 17 households, with over 120 people in the concentrated area has been implemented for over a month now. This resettlement area is about 1km from National Highway 12, fully equipped with electricity and clean water, creating more favorable conditions for people's lives.

“Previously, the old village was more than 2km away from this new resettlement area, had no electricity, and was difficult to travel to, especially during the rainy season. Thanks to the enthusiastic help of officers and soldiers, the people were supported to build houses, toilets... to suit their needs,” said Mr. Di.

Mr. Di added that the 6 households that suffered heavy damage will build new houses. In addition, those whose houses were damaged will be rebuilt in the traditional wooden architecture.

With eyes full of joy, Mr. Sung A Dinh (51 years old, Huoi Ke residential area) said: “I did not expect such a spacious house to be completed so soon. Thanks to the enthusiastic help of the soldiers and the attention of the authorities at all levels, my family now has a solid home. Without them, it would have taken my family at least 2 months to finish building this house.”

After the terrible flash flood that occurred in Muong Pon commune, the Ministry of National Defense supported the construction of 71 new houses with an amount of 50 million VND/house.

According to the reporter's records, during these days, hundreds of officers and soldiers of Regiment 741 (Dien Bien Province Military Command) and local authorities have restored infrastructure and helped people repair and rebuild their houses. Currently, 58/71 houses are gradually being completed and are expected to be completed on December 20.
