As a vital route connecting Bac Kan (old) with Thai Nguyen, National Highway 3 plays an important role in trade and promoting economic development in the midlands and mountainous areas of the North.
However, due to the impact of storm No. 11 in early October, this route experienced serious landslides in the section passing through Thanh Thinh commune.

According to the investigation, the above section belongs to the "Construction of works (road section)" package in the project to handle traffic safety points on National Highway 3 invested by the Department of Transport of Bac Kan province (old).
The project has a total value of more than 31.3 billion VND, with a implementation period of 240 days, implemented from 2024, constructed by a joint venture of Road 232 Joint Stock Company and Quyet Thang Company Limited.
According to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters in early November 2025, at Km131, many locations on the road surface appeared peeling and cracked, continuously eating into the traffic road.
On the road, each piece of plastic was pushed off the foundation, exposing the layer of gravel and rocks below, with a wide crack that formed a deep crack, stretching for meters.
In addition, the embankment roof of the negative slope area, the fence has collapsed, and is damaged, posing a potential risk to the safety of vehicles passing through.
At the damaged location, barriers were set up and warning signs were placed at both ends to ensure safety for people and vehicles traveling through the area.

Regularly driving through this section, Mr. Nguyen Van Thinh (Dong Hy commune) said that the slope of the slope was eroded, eating into the edge of the road, making the already narrow road even narrower.
"The road here is very narrow, large trucks going in the opposite direction have to squeeze in a little bit, sometimes one side has to stop and wait for the other side to continue running, it is not easy to get stuck and collide with each other," said Mr. Thinh.
Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy - a resident living near the area - also shared that although there are warning signs and ropes, it is difficult to observe the road at night due to lack of lighting equipment.
" there are cracks all over the road, landslides on the slope, right below are river banks and vehicles that do not pay attention, the steering wheel is weak when avoiding each other, if deviated, it can slide down, very unsafe.
I hope the authorities will soon reinforce and fix it so that road users can feel more secure," Mr. Huy added.

Talking to reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Phan Duc Luan - Chairman of Thanh Thinh Commune People's Committee - confirmed that there were landslides, peeling and cracks on the National Highway 3 road surface.
According to the local leader, the cause came from the impact of storms and floods, causing landslides at two locations, including Thanh Binh (old) and Nong Ha areas, in which a section has just been repaired and completed.
"Immediately after the incident, the locality put up ropes and warning signs to ensure traffic safety, and sent documents to competent authorities requesting early repair," said the commune chairman.
