The historic flash flood in late July and early August took the labor of hundreds of people, many families fell into a state of total loss, and their fertile rice fields were suddenly buried completely by rocks and soil.
According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, the fertile fields in Pa Khom and Pa Khoang villages, Muong Luan commune, Dien Bien province have now become deserted, messy land.
Many households can only stand and look at their fields, which were supposed to be in the rice harvest season.

The plot of rice has now been completely "erased", Mr. Lo Van La (62 years old, Pa Khoang village, Muong Luan commune) said that the flood took away more than 3,000 m2 of rice from his family, the main source of income for the whole family.
"My family's fields are right next to the stream, so the flood swept them away. This season, my family does not have a single grain of rice," Mr. La said sadly.
According to Mr. La, although he has lived in the village for more than 60 years, he has never witnessed such a big and brutal flash flood.

In the same situation, Mr. Lo Van Khoa's family (Ba Khoang village) also fell into a situation of "sitting idle" in the middle of the harvest season. His entire rice area was buried by floodwaters.
"Normally, my family's fields also collect 30 - 35 bags of rice. This year, I lost everything. People's houses have little to harvest, my house just sit idly by, the flood has taken away everything, there is nothing left," said Mr. Khoa.
Mr. Khoa's biggest concern now is not only immediate hunger but also the future of production. His family's fields have not yet been recovered because they are covered by countless large rocks.
"We hope the State will pay attention to supporting the restoration of the fields. The land now cannot be planted with crops because it is all piles," said Mr. Khoa.

According to statistics, after the flood that lasted from July 26 to August 2, the entire Dien Bien province had damaged about 205 hectares of rice, barley and other crops; over 33 hectares of corn, pineapple and vegetables were damaged. The flood also swept away many buffaloes, cows, and fish ponds of the people.
In particular, 14 irrigation works and domestic water works in the whole province were damaged, while Muong Luan commune alone had 10 works.
Muong Luan is also an area that suffered a lot of damage due to heavy rain, flash floods, and flash floods caused by the recent natural disaster (from August 26 to 30). Preliminary statistics show that the total value of damage to traffic infrastructure, irrigation, housing, assets, livestock, crops... in the commune is estimated at over 116 billion VND.
Previously, in mid-September 2025, during a working trip to Muong Luan commune, Mr. Le Thanh Do - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee suggested that the commune closely coordinate with relevant agencies and units to urgently deploy solutions to overcome the consequences of natural disasters.
First of all, it is necessary to focus on timely support for families whose houses were completely damaged and are subject to relocation; and to do a good job of social security. At the same time, it guides and supports people to restore production and livestock farming; repair traffic routes and irrigation works.
