In Vinh Thanh commune (Hanoi city), people's rice fields have about a month left until the harvest. However, on the farmers' faces, instead of a bright smile, anxiety arose. A few days ago, the impact of storm No. 9 caused heavy rain, causing many rice fields here to be flooded, creating conditions for the development of eczema.
Mr. Pham Van Quang (character's name has been changed upon request - PV) - a rice farmer in Vinh Thanh commune - shared: "After storm No. 9, the rice got sick and the leaves turned yellow very quickly. We had to take the water out of the fields and spray the pesticides. Not yet happy because the rice has recovered, now I heard the news of the upcoming storm No. 10. Sitting at home is not easy, I have to focus on the fields.
Mr. Quang added: "After the recent storm, my family's rice fields had acquired acidosis and the rice leaves were burned. I sprayed herbal medicine but it did not improve much. This crop risks a significant decrease in productivity".

The worry is evident on the faces of many farmers. They understood that just a strong wind would easily knock the ripe rice down. When rice is in the millions, harvesters have difficulty operating, harvesting costs increase many times, while grain quality decreases, traders criticize, and prices are low. In addition, the reed disease will directly affect rice productivity if it is prolonged.
Mr. Thang - a rice farmer - confided: "My whole family depends on more than 1,000 m2 of rice. If there is a bad harvest, then consider it as Tet this year, there is nothing".
"Working on the fields is hard, but I can only rely on God and earth. Hopefully, there will be less rain and more sunshine so that the rice will sprout solidly. We just need to keep rice to take care of our children and make ends meet, said Mr. Thang.
