On January 21, one day after discovering the newborn baby abandoned in the ditch, Ms. Pham Thuy Linh (born 1993, residing in Viet Yen street, Quang Phu ward, Thanh Hoa province) was still in shock when recalling the time she discovered the newborn baby abandoned in the ditch.
Sharing with Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, Ms. Linh said that she is a worker at Thanh Hoa Environment and Urban Works Joint Stock Company. At about 6 am on January 20, after finishing her morning work and returning home, she was informed by a neighbor that a newborn baby had been abandoned in the ditch. Hearing the news, she hurriedly ran out to check.
When I came out, I saw it was true. The baby was lying in the sewer ditch, covered in mud, without clothes and dying. Without thinking much, I immediately called my older sister, brought a temporary scarf to wrap for the baby, and the two sisters took the baby straight to Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital for emergency treatment" - Ms. Linh recalled.
According to Ms. Linh, she has worked as an environmental worker for more than 10 years, familiar with being exposed to waste and polluted environment. However, this is the first time she has witnessed the scene of a newborn baby being abandoned in such a dirty place.

At the time of discovery, the baby was lying in a wastewater ditch, with a strong stench. The baby was still naked, covered in mud, and surrounded by many insects. Initially, Ms. Linh thought the baby was no longer alive, but then saw that the baby was still moving, so she immediately took him to the hospital. At about 7 am on the same day, the baby was admitted to the hospital and given emergency treatment at Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital.
On January 21, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of the leadership of Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital said that the baby's health condition has passed the critical stage, is being ventilated and actively monitored.

Previously, at about 7:30 am on January 20, the Emergency Department of Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital received a newborn baby brought by people from Quang Phu ward (Thanh Hoa province) in critical condition, with the body covered in mud. The baby was identified as a male, newborn, weighing 1.7kg.
Immediately after admission, the baby was transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Through examination, doctors determined that the baby had cardiac arrest. However, after being promptly resuscitated, the baby's heart rate returned.
At the time of admission, I directed departments and professional rooms to focus all resources to save the baby. Currently, the baby has been washed clean, and treatment and nurturing plans have been implemented" - a representative of Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital informed.
