Recorded on June 29, after Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plant opened 3 bottom spillways, the water level of the Lo River has risen. In particular, the section through Tuyen Quang City is currently at a water cost of over 23m, higher than alert level 1.
Many areas along the river and low-lying areas have experienced localized flooding, submerging the crops of people cultivating on the alluvial plains.
Ms. Le Thi Hoa (Nong Tien ward, Tuyen Quang city) said that her family had more than 2 sao of corn planted on Tinh Huc plowing, which was currently submerged by rising river water. Valuable livestock have been proactively relocated for 3 days.

"If the water recedes quickly, the crops can still survive, but if they continue to rise like this for a few more days, all the trees will die. Hopefully there will not be a big flood like last year," Ms. Hoa worried.
Some people living in shed houses and restaurant businesses on the Lo River have also proactively tied up their houses and protected their property when the water level rose. However, due to complicated weather developments, people are still worried.

Mr. Ma Quang Truong (Minh Xuan ward) shared: "Whenever there is a spirit of fleeing the flood, assets have been brought ashore. Upstream, there will continue to be rain, if the hydropower plant releases water, flooding will be inevitable".
On June 29, Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plant opened 3 bottom spillways with a water flow of about 2,200-2,400m3/s, causing the water level of the Lo River and the Gam River downstream to rise.

This hydropower project has all 8 bottom spillways, in case of prolonged heavy rain in the upstream and increased water flow to the reservoir, the authorities will be forced to open other bottom spillways.
To ensure the safety of works and activities along the river, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment requires provinces and cities of Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, and Hanoi to immediately notify authorities at all levels, people, organizations operating on the river, along the river, aquaculture facilities, water transport vehicles, and ferry terminals.

Review and ensure the safety of construction works, gathering and transferring sand and gravel to know information about flood discharge in Tuyen Quang hydroelectric reservoir to proactively take preventive measures to ensure safety of people and property.
In early September 2024, due to the impact of prolonged heavy rain, Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plant had to open all 8 bottom spillways, causing the water level on the Lo River and Gam River to rise. Tuyen Quang City experienced a historic flood after nearly 20 years with a water level of 27.73m.
Previously, the historic flood in 1971 was recorded with a water cost of 31.37m.
