On the afternoon of January 15, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Le Hong Quang - Chairman of the People's Committee of Quan Son District, Thanh Hoa Province - said that for many days, the water of the Luong River flowing through the area has turned red.

"By this afternoon, the red color had decreased a lot. Through initial verification, the river water was red due to mineral exploitation activities from Laos, a dam broke and flowed down the Luong River and then into the district area. Currently, they have fixed it, so the above situation has decreased" - Mr. Quang informed.
According to Mr. Quang, after the incident, the district took water samples and sent them to the provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment for analysis.
Previously, from the morning of January 12, the Luong River water, which was clear and blue, suddenly became cloudy and turned an unusual red color. This incident lasted for many days, and now the situation has improved.
