Due to the impact of storm No. 3 that caused prolonged heavy rain and rising water, at around 1:00 p.m. this afternoon (July 22), a section of the Cu La culvert embankment (Hong Vu commune, Hung Yen province) experienced a phenomenon of bank overflow, threatening the safety of households.
The leader of Hong Vu commune said that the incident of overflowing embankments occurred this afternoon, the People's Committee of Hong Vu commune urgently evacuated 42 households with 107 people to safety. The phenomenon of embankment overflow occurred at 4 locations with a total area of about 70m.
Before the incident, nearly 200 people, machinery, materials, and rescue and incident handling were mobilized. The Hung Yen Provincial Military Command has mobilized 60 soldiers to coordinate with the authorities and people of Hong Vu commune to deploy measures to handle, reinforce embankments, transport supplies and ensure safety at the scene.
By 4:00 p.m. the same day (July 22), the work to fix the problem of the Cu La Cau embankment overflow had been basically completed, ensuring initial safety for the residential area.
According to a quick report from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Hung Yen province, by 6:00 p.m. on July 22, the total area of crops was flooded and broken over 40,000 hectares, of which the rice area was flooded about 26,000 hectares; about 15 hectares of bananas were completely fallen.
Some embankment locations in river mouths, coastal areas, low-lying areas of the Red River, Tra Ly River and riverside alluvial areas were overflowed. Localities have handled the incident.
