During the process of taking samples of martyrs' remains for DNA testing at Duc Hoa Martyrs' Cemetery, Hau Nghia commune, Tay Ninh province, functional units discovered a special artifact in the grave of an unidentified martyr.
Accordingly, at area C1, lot 1, row 3, grave number 5, the task force found a photo that had blurred over time. Although many details were damaged, the photo still retains images of some faces, initially identified as possibly a family photo of the martyr.
Information stored at the cemetery said that the tomb belongs to a martyr who sacrificed in 1968, belonging to unit E2-F9 (Regiment 2, Division 9). The initial burial place was determined to be in the tomb area in Tan Hoa hamlet, Duc Lap commune, Tay Ninh province (formerly Duc Lap Ha commune, Duc Hoa district, Long An province).
Currently, the martyr's remains have been sampled by functional agencies of Tay Ninh province to serve DNA testing.
In parallel with that, the Tay Ninh Provincial Military Command is applying technology to restore and clarify the details remaining on the photo to maximize the preservation of the artifact's current status. Functional agencies expect this to be an important clue to serve the comparison, verification of information and search for relatives of martyrs.
Steering Committee 515 of Tay Ninh province calls on organizations, individuals and relatives of martyrs if they recognize the person in the photo or have information related to the martyr's grave, unit and combat area, to soon provide it to functional agencies to serve the verification work.
