Developing supporting industries: Ready for aircraft manufacturing industry

Trần Minh |

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has just directed the Department of Industry to research and cooperate with partners in China in many fields, including aircraft manufacturing.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, this cooperation is within the framework of implementing the task of developing key industries between the two countries. The Department of Industry continues to coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China to concretize the goals that have been discussed and agreed upon in the memorandum of understanding on industrial cooperation between the two ministries. Notably, the cooperation does not stop at aircraft manufacturing but also expands to other industrial fields such as automobiles, consumer goods, supporting industries, platforms and minerals.

Experience sharing and technology transfer in the aerospace industry are also promoted to promote stronger development of this industry.

Previously, in early November 2024, during a working trip to Kunming City, Yunnan Province, China, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Mr. Wei Yingbiao - Permanent Deputy General Director of the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC). This is a state-owned enterprise established in 2008, headquartered in Shanghai, aiming to develop China's commercial aviation industry. At the meeting, the Prime Minister welcomed COMAC to continue surveying and researching the market, promoting cooperation with Vietnamese enterprises.

Mr. Wei Yingbiao affirmed that COMAC attaches great importance to the Vietnamese market as the Vietnamese economy is developing strongly, especially the Vietnamese aviation industry is a driving force of the regional aviation industry; wishes to promote cooperation with Vietnamese partners to concretize and implement the common perception and agreement between the two countries' senior leaders.

Currently, many Vietnamese enterprises have taken steps to prepare for cooperation, access, and production in the aerospace industry, especially considering this as a step for Vietnam's supporting industry.

In 2024, the Hanoi Supporting Industry Business Association (HANSIBA) organized many events related to promoting cooperation and linking production and supply of products and services of supporting industry enterprises with multinational corporations. In particular, the training on "Aerospace Quality Management System" - AS9100 is prominent.

AS9100 is the standard for organizations that design, develop or supply aerospace, defense products and services, including parts, components and assemblies. Achieving AS9100 Certification will enhance your reputation in the global marketplace; improve trust from business partners and customers; reduce costs by improving risk management; improve operational efficiency and productivity; and is often required as a condition of tendering in the aerospace and defense industry.

Chairman of HANSIBA, Vice Chairman of Vietnam Association of Supporting Industries (VASI), Chairman of N&G Group Nguyen Hoang said: “AS9100 Training and Certification aims to help Vietnamese enterprises access the global production chain in the aerospace sector”.

In Vietnam, there is no domestic manufacturer qualified to participate in the supply chain of aircraft components. Meanwhile, many large companies, such as Boeing of the US, are currently interested in the Vietnamese market, opening up business opportunities for Vietnam, including enterprises in the supporting industry.

As one of the enterprises signing the investment consulting contract to participate in the global aerospace components production chain, CEO of An Mi Tools Company Nguyen Hong Phong shared: Experts and enterprises have provided full overview information about AS9100 Certification. Currently, airlines around the world are very interested in finding production units in Vietnam to transfer the supply chain. This is a good and great opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises.

The latest moves by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Vietnam Association of Supporting Industries, as well as businesses, show that Vietnam is ready for the aircraft manufacturing industry, contributing to bringing the country into a new era.
