On February 6, nearly 3 weeks after the bank robbery that shocked public opinion in Hoi Phu ward, the Ministry of Public Security and Gia Lai Provincial Police held a press conference, informing about the successful arrest of 2 suspects, seizing many guns, ammunition and exhibits of the case.
The two main suspects in the case are Pham Thanh Tai (alias Tai "den", born in 1990) and Le Van An (born in 1991, both residing in Dak Cam ward, Quang Ngai province).
For many years, in the former Kon Tum province, Tai "den" was famous as a notorious gangster and notorious gangster. Tai "den" has appeared in a number of cases related to murder, illegal use of military weapons, robbery... Under his command, there are always some trusted henchmen participating in illegal activities.
In 2018, Tai "den" committed murder when using an AK rifle to commit the crime, causing his opponents to be terrified. Pham Thanh Tai also admitted that the "murder" occurred on the evening of August 5, 2018 at Window bar, Nguyen Hue street, Kon Tum city, Kon Tum province (old).
According to criminal investigators, An is also a close subordinate of Tai "den" in the bank robbery. An values Tai "den" because this subject is knowledgeable, can use many types of military weapons and has a reckless personality, ready to shoot at opponents and targets.
At the time criminal police raided and arrested Tai "den" in Chu Pah commune, Gia Lai province, the police seized 4 handguns (unidentified type), along with 46 bullets, about 1kg of lead bullets, 930 million VND in cash, 2 gold rings and many other objects and documents related to the case.
Meanwhile, Le Van An was arrested when he returned to live with his wife and children in Quang Ngai, appearing as if unrelated to the bank robbery that occurred nearly 3 weeks earlier.
Currently, Gia Lai Provincial Police are continuing to coordinate with the Criminal Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) and Ho Chi Minh City Police to investigate and expand the case according to the provisions of law. Not only stopping at the bank robbery in Hoi Phu ward, the investigating agency also suspects Pham Thanh Tai of being related to a number of other serious cases.
