Quang Ngai completed excavation of 13,656 graves at 113 martyrs' cemeteries, collecting more than 9,000 biological samples to ensure conditions for DNA testing.

Excavation and sampling of biological products are piloted by Quang Ngai province from May 2026 at Nghia Trung Martyrs' Cemetery, Tu Nghia commune; then implemented simultaneously at martyrs' cemeteries in the province.

To speed up the progress, the Provincial Steering Committee established 12 teams to excavate and take samples of martyrs' remains, each team has 10-15 members. Localities also established support teams and teams, while ensuring security and logistics to serve this work.

To date, Quang Ngai has completed excavating 13,656 graves at 113 martyrs' cemeteries, collecting more than 9,000 biological samples to ensure DNA testing conditions. The Provincial Military Command has handed over 6,883 samples to the Military Forensic Institute and is expected to continue handing over an additional 2,186 samples next week.

According to Colonel Trinh Cong Son - Deputy Political Commissar of the Quang Ngai Provincial Military Command, the forces have worked continuously, including holidays and public holidays, overcoming weather difficulties to complete the sampling work 15 days earlier than planned.

The Provincial Military Command will continue to hand over biological samples to the Military Forensic Institute to carry out the appraisal steps. At the same time, organize training and professional development, and supplement forces for the province's martyrs' remains search and repatriation teams.

From information provided by the people, agencies, and units and the results of local conclusions, the forces continue to search for and repatriate martyrs' remains, implement the 500-day and night campaign to promote the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs' remains launched by the Provincial Steering Committee.

The collected biological samples will be tested and compared with the DNA data of the martyr's relatives. The comparison results are the basis for verifying identity, opening up more opportunities for families who are still searching for relatives after many years of waiting.
