A series of key projects and works for socio-economic development for the 2025-2030 term have just been invested in by Quang Ninh province.
Of these, Quang Ninh province plans to invest in building a 2km long overpass, connecting the large Co To island and Thanh Lan island, in Co To Special Zone. The expected implementation period is from 2027-2029.
Currently, the means of transportation between these two islands (about 2km apart) are boats and canoes, with a one-way time of about 20 minutes under normal weather conditions.
Thanh Lan Island, 27km2 wide, is the largest island in the Co To archipelago, holding a particularly important strategic position in the Gulf of Tonkin.
On the island, there are about 1,600 people who live mainly by fishing and have started exploiting tourism.
Thanh Lan Island stands out with its rich forest and marine ecosystem, more than 70% of the area is covered by natural forests. The beaches, such as Ba Chau, Hai Quan, C67... still retain their wild beauty, smooth white sand and clear blue sea water, attracting visitors to find peace and experience pure nature.
Unlike other crowded tourist destinations, Thanh Lan is like a separate world - where people live in harmony with nature, not noisy but full of charm. The beaches have not been concreted, the waves are gentle, and the natural scenery is still as intact as when they were discovered.
In order to meet the increasing demand of tourists, Co To Special Zone is developing a variety of experiential tourism types such as walking through the forest, camping along the coast, catching squid at night or diving in the sea to see coral. In particular, since April 2023, the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province has allowed diving organizations with tour guides in the areas of Vung Tron, Hon Chim and Hon Ong Tich - opening up opportunities to explore the world of rich and colorful marine life.
