Dismantling bird traps
Over the past time, in some fields and vacant lots in Quang Tri province, there has still been a situation of casting nets, setting traps, and using fake birds to lure and hunt wild birds, especially during bird migration.
Faced with this situation, the police, forest rangers and local authorities are strengthening patrols, inspections, dismantling traps and handling violations.
On September 19, in an exchange with Lao Dong Newspaper, Lieutenant Colonel Le Quang Chiem - Head of Le Thuy Commune Police said that the commune police force is coordinating with forest rangers and forces participating in protecting security and order at the grassroots level to strengthen grasping the situation in areas at risk of wild bird hunting.
Previously, Le Thuy Commune Police coordinated with the Le Thuy area Forest Protection force and forces participating in protecting security and order at the grassroots level in villages to organize patrols and inspections in the Loc An field area.
During the patrol, the forces focus on inspecting areas at risk of hunting and trapping birds and storks; and at the same time propagate and remind people to comply with the provisions of law on wildlife protection.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Le Quang Chiem, along with direct inspection in the fields, mobilizing people not to set traps, set nets, hunt, trade, transport and store wild birds is identified as a solution that needs to be implemented regularly.
People are also advised to notify functional agencies when detecting acts of hunting, trapping or trading wild birds so that functional forces can promptly inspect and handle them.
Not only in Le Thuy commune, inspection and seizure of bird trapping tools are also being implemented in many localities.
In Truong Ninh commune, the commune police coordinated with Long Dai Forest Ranger Station under Quang Ninh Forest Protection Department to inspect field areas in the area. Through inspection, functional forces discovered and seized more than 200m of nets used to trap birds and more than 100 fake storks.
These are tools used to lure and trap wild birds. All the fake nets and storks were then seized and destroyed by functional forces according to regulations.
Handling bird hunters
In addition to dismantling traps, functional forces in Quang Tri have handled cases of directly using nets to hunt wild birds.
In My Thuy commune, a task force of the Commune Police discovered Mr. H.T. B (born 1988, residing in Thanh Huong residential group, Phong Phu ward, Hue City) using a stealth net, also known as a giăng net, to hunt wild birds and migratory birds in the vacant land area of Tham Khe village.
At the time of inspection, the task force discovered and seized 11 Di Giun birds, commonly known as Dat birds, along with related exhibits.
My Thuy Commune Police made a record of working, an administrative violation record, and temporarily seized exhibits, tools, and vehicles for verification.
After verifying the violation, on September 14, 2026, My Thuy Commune Police issued a decision to sanction administrative violations against Mr. H.T. B for the act of "hunting and catching wild animals against the law", with a fine of 3 million VND.
After completing the procedures, My Thuy Commune Police coordinated with the forest rangers to release 11 De Giun birds back to their natural environment.
In the coming time, localities will continue to strengthen patrols, dismantle hunting tools, handle violations and propagate to people not to hunt, trade, transport, and consume wild birds, thereby contributing to protecting migratory birds and biodiversity in the area.
