On March 30, leaders of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee confirmed that they had issued documents directing departments, branches and localities to strengthen review and tighten management of mineral exploitation and recovery activities in the area.
Previously, at the regular meeting on socio-economic issues held in March 2026, Mr. Le Hong Vinh - Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee requested units and localities to review all dossiers related to mineral recovery to prevent resource loss.
Accordingly, the Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee requested to review the salvage dossiers, legal procedures, and procedure processes to ensure requirements or not.
Projects of salvage such as dredging the lakebed, allowing salvage but extending it 2-3 times, no longer have the meaning of increasing lake capacity, it is necessary to review them to ensure requirements" - Mr. Le Hong Vinh emphasized.
According to the assessment of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee, state management of minerals in the area still has many limitations. Illegal mining, mining exceeding capacity or outside the licensed scope still occurs; some businesses have not strictly complied with regulations on environmental protection. These shortcomings not only cause budget losses but also pose a risk of landslides, affecting the environment and local security and order.
Faced with this situation, the Provincial People's Committee requests departments, branches and local authorities to proactively review functions and tasks; strengthen inspection and examination, promptly detect and strictly handle violations in mineral exploitation activities. At the same time, strictly control the transportation and trading of sand and gravel of unknown origin; resolutely handle violations according to legal regulations.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of communes, wards, and special zones is responsible if illegal mineral exploitation occurs in the area without focusing on handling, prolonging or delaying when receiving feedback.
