Recently, in the area from the foot of Man Quang bridge to Man Quang Border Control Station (Da Nang city), a large amount of household waste has been continuously drifted ashore, causing pollution and seriously affecting the environment.
According to records, from the shore to the water surface, every corner of the alley is covered with garbage, from plastic waste, foam boxes, plastic bags, old sacks to used household items.
The dense scene of garbage has become a familiar image to people living and frequently passing through this area. Many people are frustrated by the prolonged pollution. On hot days or when the tide recedes, the stench from the garbage piles is strong, causing an extremely uncomfortable feeling.
Ms. Nguyen Dinh (Son Tra ward, Da Nang city), a long-time resident of the area, said: "This amount of waste is mostly caused by fishing boats from other places. They eat on the boat and then conveniently throw garbage into the sea. Even the fish sacks and fish gloves were thrown down. Garbage is drifted ashore from there. There is also a volunteer team and environmental sanitation workers here to clean up, but only a few weeks or a month later, the garbage is piled up like before.
Not only is the waste covered, the water environment in Man Quang Bay is also in a worrying state. The water turns black like squid, giving off a strong stench. The area that used to be a frequent destination for people has now become deserted due to the messy scene and prolonged unpleasant smell.
A fisherman who has been fishing for many years in the area shared that every time the sea is rough, the amount of garbage washed ashore increases. Most of them are plastic bags containing fish, plastic bowls and many other household items, covered with the shore and packed into layers. On days of heavy rain or hot weather, the stench makes no one dare to stand nearby.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Dinh Vui - Chairman of Son Tra Ward People's Committee - informed: "Previously, the ward coordinated with Da Nang Urban Environment Company to collect garbage 2 days/week. But with the current situation, the ward will coordinate to increase the frequency of collection more often in the Man Quang Bay area".
Faced with this situation, on the afternoon of August 5, workers of Da Nang Urban Environment Company were present in Man Quang Bay to collect the amount of waste remaining, partly restoring cleanliness to the bay shore.
