Waste treatment after floods
Damaged items are piled up along the road. Many areas have strong odors. Faced with pressure to clean up the environment, many residential groups have mobilized their own funds to treat waste.
Mr. Vu Dinh Chung (Vinh Diem Trung area) said that he mobilized people in the group to contribute money to rent a car to collect: "Rated food and household waste cause traffic jams and pollution. For now, we have decided to help each other clean up the area in front of the house.
Mr. Ha Van Me's family and households in Ngoc Hoi group 4 agreed to contribute 150,000 VND per household to rent a private collection service. According to Mr. Me, this is the fastest solution to avoid prolonged pollution: "If we leave it for a few more days, the risk of disease is very high".
Witnessing the garbage still flooding the road, even more after the flood, Mr. Ngo Thang Quang, Phu An 2 hamlet, Dien Khanh commune, gave his own money and encouraged a number of friends to work far away to help clean up nearly 1km of Lau Ong Huyen street.
"I rented 1 excavator and 3 dump trucks to clean from 7am to 9pm, all the garbage was moved to the collection point. Seeing the brothers moving, everyone immediately went out to move in front of their house, so the road was cleared immediately. Hopefully everyone will take action first for their living environment, then share with the public service that is collecting a huge amount of garbage" - Mr. Quang shared.
Accelerate waste treatment, prevent epidemics
Faced with the widespread situation of waste accumulation, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee has issued many urgent directives. The province requires localities to count the amount of waste remaining, isolate polluted areas, mobilize maximum means and human resources to work all night, and strive to complete waste treatment after floods.
The Provincial People's Committee also directed wards and communes to increase propaganda so that people can collect garbage at the right collection point. At the same time, littering should be strictly handled. The Department of Agriculture and Environment is assigned to supervise the entire process of garbage collection, transportation, and treatment after floods. For the Department of Health, provide instructions on disinfection for epidemic prevention; the Department of Finance allocates emergency funding. The armed forces in the area are required to support the collection in disadvantaged areas, remote areas.
A representative of Nha Trang Urban Environment Joint Stock Company said that during the recent flood, 80% of the unit's workers were in flooded areas. Up to now, the unit has mobilized hundreds of workers to work continuously for many days, every day from 16:00 to 18:00. There are many cases where flooded houses still have to temporarily close to focus on collecting garbage after the flood.
Currently, the main inner-city roads of Nha Trang have basically completed the clearance of the congested garbage. Only a few points in the alley in Nha Trang remain.
In addition to the workforce of Nha Trang Urban Environment Company, Ho Chi Minh City also supported 11 garbage trucks, 6 garbage compactors and 300 human resources to speed up processing. Garbage collection units in the province have also been increased in support of collection in Dien Khanh area and residential areas in the suburbs of Nha Trang.
