As Lao Dong Newspaper has continuously reported, at the end of 2025 and entering 2026, in the central wards of Thanh Hoa province, garbage congestion continuously occurred, surrounding neighborhoods and collection points.
After garbage congestion, local authorities have issued temporary solutions to collect it. However, after only a short time, the above situation recurred.
Most recently, in the first days of April 2026 (from April 1 to 3), local congestion continued to occur in wards such as Hac Thanh, Ham Rong, and Nguyet Vien. The incident caused many people to be upset because it not only damaged urban aesthetics but also caused environmental pollution.
Ms. Le Thi Binh (resident in Ham Rong ward, Thanh Hoa province) said that the situation of garbage accumulation continuously occurs, greatly affecting people's lives. "In fact, garbage accumulation for a long time also causes conflicts between households. Because piles of garbage right in front of households along roads and neighborhoods'accidentally' become garbage dumps for many other people, causing mutual suspicion right in residential areas.
Sharing the same view, Ms. Le Thi Mai (resident in Hac Thanh ward) expressed that the treatment of daily domestic waste is an urgent issue for each locality. If garbage is not collected, it will pile up in just one day. "A green city, a clean city, first of all, the issue of waste must be treated methodically and regularly. However, in just a short time, garbage congestion and shabbiness have continuously occurred, greatly affecting people's lives" - Ms. Mai said.
On April 6, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of the leaders of Hac Thanh Ward People's Committee admitted that the current waste treatment is still quite passive, only temporary and there is no thorough and long-term solution.
“To treat waste, the locality must contact some landfills in neighboring areas to reach an acceptance agreement. However, these landfills are almost overloaded, so when an incident occurs, the garbage is congested again. Therefore, garbage treatment has only stopped at a certain time, even by day,” said a representative of the leaders of Hac Thanh Ward People's Committee.
According to a representative of the leaders of Dong Quang Ward People's Committee, after the Southeast landfill was overloaded and stopped receiving, the Provincial People's Committee has regulated and diverted traffic so that localities can transport garbage to nearby landfills. "Regarding the ward, garbage is transported to the landfill in Vinh Loc district (old), the receiving capacity here is still large, so the treatment and collection of garbage in the locality is basically temporarily stable" - a representative of Dong Quang Ward People's Committee informed.
