The project to upgrade and expand Ca Mau Airport is closely following the schedule, expected to be completed on October 31 and resume operation from November 1, 2026.

On July 31, Mr. Pham Thanh Lam - Director of Ca Mau Airport - said that the project to upgrade and expand Ca Mau Airport is being implemented on schedule, expected to be completed on October 31, 2026 and officially put back into operation from November 1, 2026.

According to Mr. Lam, the flight calibration of equipment at runways is expected to be carried out in September 2026, creating a premise to put the airport into operation on schedule.

After the airport resumes operation, Vietnam Airlines plans to operate the Ca Mau - Ho Chi Minh City route by Airbus A321 aircraft, departing at 1:05 PM. For the Ca Mau - Hanoi route, the airline assesses it as potential and is continuing to study an operating plan.

At the construction site, Package No. 12, constructed by Brigade 470 (Truong Son Construction Corporation), is focusing on completing the structural layers of the runway, taxiway, and aircraft parking apron. Supporting items such as drainage systems, fences and patrol roads are also being deployed synchronously.

In Package No. 20, the contractor increased manpower, machinery, and organized overtime construction to accelerate the construction progress of the passenger terminal and auxiliary works in a rolling manner.

Previously, on the afternoon of July 30, Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee worked online with Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) and airlines on the plan to restore airport operations.

At the working session, Mr. Lam Van Bi - Standing Vice Chairman of Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee - said that the demand for passenger and cargo transportation in the locality is very large. The operation of narrow-body aircraft routes connecting Ca Mau with Ho Chi Minh City, gradually expanding to Hanoi and other localities, will contribute to strengthening regional linkages, attracting investment and promoting socio-economic development.

Leaders of Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee requested ACV and airlines to soon survey the reality and develop appropriate operating plans to promote project efficiency, and affirmed that the locality will create all favorable conditions in the implementation process.

The project to upgrade and expand Ca Mau Airport has a total investment of about 2,400 billion VND, starting construction on August 19, 2025. According to the plan for the period 2021 - 2030, the airport will reach level 4C, with a capacity of 1 million passengers and 1,000 tons of cargo per year, meeting the conditions to operate Code C aircraft such as Airbus A320, A321 or equivalent. By 2050, the airport is oriented to increase its capacity to 3 million passengers and 3,000 tons of cargo per year.
