Overcoming difficulties in rapid construction of Long Thanh airport
On December 19, Long Thanh International Airport (abbreviated as Long Thanh Airport) in Dong Nai province opened its first flight with the participation of Politburo member, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh and the delegation, on flight Boeing 787 of Vietnam Airlines taking off from Noi Bai airport, landing at Long Thanh airport.
According to Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), Long Thanh airport is a national importance project with a scale of level 4F (the highest level of ICAO). This is a symbol of the country's strong desire to rise in the new era of development. Overcoming the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and difficulties in site clearance, with the spirit of "3 shifts, 4 teams", "overcoming the sun and overcoming the rain", the project has achieved impressive progress.
The airport items such as runways, taxiways, and parking lots have been completed and received the first technical flight by the Boeing 787 wide-body aircraft on December 15, 2025. The passenger terminal and connecting traffic project is in the completion stage to be ready for commercial operation in the first half of 2026.
According to ACV, Long Thanh airport is shaped as a "Smart - Green Airport" that meets international 5-star standards with breakthrough technology highlights owned by ACV, including: Seamless digital journey: Biometrics application from check-in, self- bag drop off to departure, helping passengers not need to use traditional identification documents.
Smart operating system: Airport Operating Center (Smart APOC) and the most modern fully automated luggage handling system (BHS), directly connected to the national population database.
Complete a smart, green airport with 5-star standards
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the projects and the opening of the first flight at Long Thanh airport, Mr. Vu The Phiet - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) - said: This is a huge project not only in terms of investment scale, high technical requirements but also a strategic vision that plays a driving force for the country's socio-economic development. There is still much work to be done to complete Long Thanh International Airport, operate safely and effectively to become a smart, green airport with 5-star standards towards an international airport transit in the region; maximize the role of a driving force for the development of the key economic region in the South and the country.
The Long Thanh airport project is an important national project approved by the National Assembly in Resolution No. 94/2015/QH13 dated June 25, 2015 with a capacity of 100 million passengers/year and 5 million tons of cargo/year divided into 3 phases.
