On the afternoon of January 2nd, Dak Lak provincial authorities are still investigating the Ba River embankment collapse (section passing through Son Thanh commune) that killed 4 people.
According to initial information, on the morning of January 2, Mr. Bui Xuan V (born 1961) and his wife Le Thi T (born 1961), Mr. Do Xuan H (born 1963) and his wife Nguyen Thi Kim L (born 1967) went to plant acacia trees near the Ba River embankment.
At about 9:30 am on the same day, it rained. Therefore, all 4 people went close to the Ba River embankment to shelter from the rain.
At this time, the long, many-meter-high concrete embankment suddenly collapsed, crushing all 4 people to death.
Son Thanh Commune People's Committee determined that the Ba River embankment section had a cleft palate in the foundation due to the previous rain and flood. Police forces are present to investigate the incident. Local authorities are also visiting and supporting families to take care of the funerals for the victims.
