The inter-regional traffic road project connecting Ho Chi Minh Road with National Highway 70B, National Highway 32C from Phu Tho province to Yen Bai province (now Lao Cai province) - has a total investment of 2,120 billion VND.
The main route of the project has more than 53km handed over and put into use. The remaining section of more than 2km at the beginning of the route (from Km0 - Km2+452) in Van Xuan commune is also in the process of completion.

The project is currently deploying the construction of a road extending from Km0 of the inter-regional road connecting to Km76+150 of National Highway 32 (only about 400m from Phong Chau bridge).
This is a section of the route belonging to Package No. 60: Construction of the project's extended road; winning bid price of nearly 97.6 billion VND, implemented from May 2025.

The project has a total length of 3.726km, designed according to grade III plain road standards, design speed of 80 km/h, constructed through Van Xuan and Tam Nong communes.
According to records of Lao Dong Newspaper reporters in the early days of June 2026, after more than 1 year of construction, this road is now entering the completion phase.

It can be seen that most of the entire route has been asphalted; the overpass of the Ho Chi Minh road; drainage system, embankments, taluy, branch lines, turns... have also been completed.
From Km0 of the inter-regional road, the section built passes through the fields and hillsides of Van Xuan and Tam Nong communes, crosses the Ho Chi Minh road and connects to National Highway 32 (adjacent to Tam Nong Regional Medical Center).

Mr. Nguyen Van Nhat - a resident living in Tam Nong commune - shared: "After the new road is completed, people in Cam Khe and Yen Lap areas going along the inter-regional road through Phong Chau bridge, to Lam Thao and Viet Tri areas across the Red River will be easier and more convenient.
Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Do The Nam - Deputy Director of the Phu Tho Regional Project Management Board - said that currently, the contractor is focusing on completing the asphalt concrete paving item and the traffic safety system on the route.

According to Mr. Nam, the project is expected to be completed and handed over for use before June 30, 2026.
Previously, on February 9, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc signed Decision No. 262/QD-TTg on adjusting the central budget reserve source for 2024 assigned to the Ministry of Construction to supplement targetedly corresponding to Phu Tho province.

Specifically, transferring 196.596 billion VND from the central budget reserve for 2024 assigned to the Ministry of Construction in Decision No. 1389/QD-TTg dated November 15, 2024 of the Prime Minister to supplement with corresponding objectives for Phu Tho province to implement the project to expand the road connecting Phong Chau bridge to the inter-regional road.
In the future, when the section from Phong Chau bridge to the extended inter-regional road is expanded, it will create a synchronous and modern inter-regional road traffic axis - Phong Chau bridge - National Highway 32C.
