The embankment to prevent landslides on the banks of Hieu River (Quang Tri Province) has just been urgently completed, but after storm No. 4, there are signs of subsidence.

On September 20, Cam Lo District People's Committee confirmed that after storm No. 4, the emergency embankment to prevent landslides on the Hieu River bank through Moc Duc village (Cam Hieu commune, Cam Lo district, Quang Tri province) showed signs of subsidence. Therefore, Cam Lo District People's Committee assigned specialized agencies to inspect and take remedial measures to ensure safety for the project and people's travel.

Previously, after floods in previous years, the bank of Hieu River through Moc Duc village was eroded.

To ensure people's safety, Quang Tri provincial authorities requested Cam Lo district to urgently and temporarily reinforce to limit further landslides.

Cam Lo District People's Committee has allocated 370 million VND to build an emergency embankment project with a length of 77m and has just completed and accepted in August 2024.

However, the rain before and after storm No. 4 caused the structure to slide and tilt toward the river, creating a long crack.

Mr. Tran Hoai Linh - Vice Chairman of Cam Lo District People's Committee said that to deal with the problem of landslides on Hieu River through Moc Duc village, a large amount of money is needed to invest in anti-erosion embankments, and the project must have a solid embankment base below.

“Without funds, we have to build a temporary embankment to prevent further landslides, and first of all, ensure traffic flow through the road. The temporary embankment collapsed due to strong water flow, and the lower part was eroded. We have directed the specialized agency to inspect and fix it,” informed Mr. Tran Hoai Linh.

Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper reported that people in Cam Hieu commune were very worried when passing through the landslide site in Truong Xa village - Moc Duc. The landslide appeared in 2023, eating into the asphalt road surface from 0.5-1.0m, about 30m long, posing a danger to people and vehicles participating in traffic; affecting the safety of people's lives, property and public works.

The landslide deeply eroded the traffic route, greatly affecting the lives of more than 270 households here. In particular, because the Cam Hieu - Cam Thuy commune road (Cam Lo district) is the only one, in addition to serving the travel needs, it also has the task of rescuing and saving people in the North Hieu River area (Cam Lo district), so the landslide can cause serious impacts.
