At around 11:00 a.m. on January 9, 6 men including Mr. Nguyen Van Kien, Le Dinh Vui (both born in 1975, residing in Dia Sen village, An Sinh commune, Dong Trieu city), Hoang Van Dien (born in 1991), Vi Van Truong (born in 1980), Cam Van Vuong (born in 1963), and Hoang Van Tuoi (born in 1984) from Luc Nam district, Bac Giang province, sat together to eat and drink alcohol in Trai Loc village, An Sinh commune, Dong Trieu city.
After drinking about 1 liter of white wine, the group continued to drink wine soaked with forest roots. At about 1 p.m. the same day, after the meal, the 5 people began to have unusual symptoms such as dizziness, itching, blurred vision, drowsiness, fatigue and drooping eyelids.
Although he was immediately taken to Dong Trieu City Medical Center for emergency treatment, by 3:30 p.m. the same day, Mr. Le Dinh Vui had died.
The remaining four are still being treated in critical condition. One person was not affected because he did not drink alcohol.
Authorities are actively investigating the cause of the incident.
