Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa (house on Nguyen Khang Street) shared: "After the heavy rain last night, I was surprised to see the To Lich River in green again. I hope this situation will be maintained for a long time, not just after the storm".
Mr. Tran Van Tuan, who works as a security guard near the Cot Bridge, also said: "Every day I have to sit and look after the vehicles and security guards near the To Lich River. A few days ago, the sun was hot, the river water gave off an unpleasant stench. After the heavy rain yesterday and today, the river water was suddenly clear. We hope that the To Lich River will be less polluted and ensure the environment".
Previously, speaking with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Truong Quoc Bao - Head of the Management Board of the Investment Project for Construction of Yen Xa Wastewater Treatment Infrastructure - said that the unit is determined to restore and clean the water of To Lich River, expected to be completed before the National Day Ceremony on September 2.
One of the items that will decide the new look of the To Lich River is the regulating dam system. This will be the foundation for water retention, environmental improvement and a premise for urban landscape restoration.
Mr. Bao said that the dam on To Lich River is considered a "regulating valve", helping to keep and regulate the river water level, especially in the dry season. When the water flow decreases, the dam will retain part of the water to maintain the minimum flow and water level, avoiding the situation of drying up the riverbed.
The To Lich River Dam project not only has technical significance, but is also an important step in the strategy of reviving one of the symbolic rivers of the capital.
After this dam is completed, Hanoi will continue to start construction of two other dams at Dau Bridge and Cot Bridge. The progress of the two dams is expected to start construction in the third quarter of 2025. When the dam system on To Lich River is completed, it will help complete the closed irrigation system on the entire river.
The acceleration of progress and completion of the project before the National Day on September 2 also demonstrates the political determination of Hanoi City in improving the quality of life and urban landscape.
This will be an important milestone, affirming the synchronous efforts of the government, contractors and construction forces, to restore new vitality to the To Lich River, the river associated with the history, memories and spiritual life of the people of the capital.
According to the Hanoi Agricultural and Technical Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board, since August 1, the Yen Xa Wastewater Treatment Plant has officially entered the trial operation phase after being granted an environmental license.
With this capacity, the plant is capable of collecting and treating all wastewater along the To Lich River, contributing significantly to improving the environmental quality and appearance of the river.
