On July 7, the Military Command (CHQS) of Quang Tri province coordinated with relevant departments, agencies, and branches to organize a conference to unify the contents of preparation for the Workshop to verify and conclude information about collective martyrs' graves in the Cau Nhi area (Nam Hai Lang commune, Quang Tri province).
According to the research group's report, through document compilation, field verification and meeting with historical witnesses, functional forces initially determined that there are still remains of martyrs of Battalion 6 (Regiment 88, Division 308) who sacrificed in the battle in the early morning of May 26, 1972 in the Cau Nhi area that have not been fully searched and repatriated.
Comparing from many sources of documents shows that in this fierce battle, about 93 officers and soldiers bravely sacrificed. To date, functional agencies have identified the identities of 83 martyrs of Battalion 6; however, only 29 remains have been successfully searched and repatriated. It is estimated that there are still about 26 to 54 remains of martyrs lying on the old battlefield.

Speaking at the conclusion of the conference, Colonel Truong Nhu Y, Deputy Political Commissar of the Provincial Military Command, member of the Steering Committee for searching, repatriating and identifying martyrs' remains of the province, emphasized that verifying and searching for collective martyrs' graves in the Cau Nhi area is a political task of particular importance. The comrade requested agencies and units to continue to closely coordinate, urgently complete dossiers, documents and necessary conditions to successfully organize the workshop, as a basis for concluding information and deploying forces to exhume and repatriate martyrs' remains in the coming time.
It is known that functional agencies of Quang Tri province are accelerating the search and repatriation of martyrs' remains and taking DNA testing samples for martyrs' graves that have not been identified. These are the key tasks of the peak period of implementing the "500-day and night campaign to search, repatriate and identify martyrs' remains", contributing to bringing heroic martyrs back to their motherland and families after more than half a century.
