At noon on October 21, according to the reporter's records, at the foot of Thuan Phuoc Bridge (Hai Chau Ward, Da Nang City), the water level of the Han River rose in combination with large waves continuously hitting the embankment of Nhu Nguyet Street.
Due to the impact of storm No. 12, high tides accompanied by strong winds caused waves over 3m high to continuously hit the shore. Many times, strong waves cross the railing, shoot into water columns higher than the edge of the embankment and then pour down onto the sidewalk, spreading onto the road.
The consecutive strong waves hit the shore, causing severe damage to the sidewalk of Nhu Nguyet Street.
The strong impact caused the tiles to be skewed and peeling, many pieces of bricks were pushed off the foundation, lying around the route. In some locations, the sidewalk surface was deeply eroded, water overflowed, creating a swamp of flooded mud all over the road, making it difficult for people and vehicles to travel through the area.
Previously, on August 29, the Department of Construction of Da Nang province announced information on the project to overcome the impact of storms, high tides, and the impact of sea waves on Nhu Nguyet road. The project is invested by the Department of Construction with a total construction investment of about 12.4 billion VND.
Faced with complicated weather developments and responding to the approaching storm No. 12, the People's Committee of Da Nang City has requested communes and wards to immediately activate disaster prevention plans. The city also recommends that people proactively prepare food and necessities for at least 3 days and complete response plans before 5:00 p.m. on October 22.
