On the morning of October 20, storm No. 12 was active in the North East Sea, about 490km east-northeast of Hoang Sa Special Zone. The strongest wind near the storm center is level 9 (75-88km/h), gusting to level 11. It is forecasted that in the next 24-72 hours, the storm will move northwest, likely to strengthen to level 11, gust level 13, then gradually weaken as it approaches the central coast.
According to the forecast of the Central Hydrometeorological Agency, although not a strong storm, storm No. 12 is expected to cause heavy rain lasting in Da Nang from the evening of October 22 to 27. The rain may reach very heavy levels, with a high risk of flash floods, landslides in mountainous areas and flooding in low-lying areas. The forecast level of natural disaster risk due to rain and floods is at 2-3.
In that situation, the People's Committee of Da Nang City plans to organize an online meeting with localities on the afternoon of October 20 to deploy response solutions. The meeting was chaired by the leaders of the City People's Committee, with the participation of the Civil Defense Command, the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the City Military Command and districts, communes, wards and special zones.
At the meeting, units were required to proactively deploy plans to prevent and combat storms and heavy rains; review areas at risk of landslides and flooding; ensure the safety of dams, drainage systems, and traffic works. Localities must prepare evacuation plans when there are emergency situations, promptly notify people and boats operating at sea of storms.
According to the forecast, from the evening of October 20, the wind in the Da Nang sea area will gradually increase to level 6, gusting to level 7-8, waves 2-4m high, and rough seas. From the night of October 22, there is a possibility of a new widespread heavy rain, it is necessary to continue to closely monitor weather developments to proactively respond.
