Can Tho City People's Committee has just issued an official dispatch requesting departments, branches and localities to speed up the registration of fishing vessels and grant fishing licenses in the area.
Accordingly, the City People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to preside over and coordinate with the Police, the City Military Command, the Border Guard, the Department of Science and Technology and local authorities to review and count fishing vessels that have not registered and have not been granted a fishing license.
In case the ship owner has a need, the competent authority will guide and support the implementation of procedures in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Fisheries and the documents guiding the implementation. At the same time, fishing vessel data will be fully updated into the national fisheries database (VNFishbase) and the VNeID population database.
For fishing vessels that are not eligible for registration and issuance of fishing licenses, they must be removed from the content of the weekly periodic report to the National Steering Committee for Combating IUU fishing. At the same time, make a list, assign local authorities to strictly control the locations of the vessels, do not leave fishing gear on the vessels, do not allow fishing activities, force fishing vessels to return to shore and organize publicity on mass media so that people know and monitor implementation.
The City People's Committee also requested to organize guidance for ship owners, captains and crew members to register and authenticate VNeID electronic identification accounts to synchronize population information with fishing vessel data.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City, the locality currently has 797 registered fishing vessels, with a total capacity of 210,377 CV, of which 347 vessels are 15 meters or more and 58 fishing logistics service vessels. 100% of ships have been granted licenses to exploit and update data on the Vnfishbase and VNeID systems. From the beginning of 2023 to now, there has been no case of illegal mining border crossings in foreign waters.
