On March 13, speaking with Lao Dong, Colonel Nguyen Thanh Huong - Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Phu Yen Provincial Border Guard - said that the unit had reported to the Border Guard Command, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant agencies to announce the search for international cargo ships that damaged local fishermen's fishing boats.
"After the collision, international ships did not stop but continued to move to other countries to return goods, so the verification and search work encountered many difficulties. The strong impact caused the roof of the fishing boat to collapse, many parts were broken, and the estimated damage was billions of VND. Currently, all fishermen on the boat are safe and are being brought to shore," Colonel Huong informed.
Previously, at 2:00 p.m. on March 9, 2025, Hoa Hiep Nam Border Guard Station (Phu Yen Provincial Border Guard) received a report that a fishing boat of Phu Yen fishermen had been broken by a foreign boat while operating at sea.
Through verification, the fishing boat that was sunk has the registration number PY95157TS, 18.8m long, 730CV capacity, captained and owned by Mr. Huynh Tan Phong (born in 1984, residing in Hoa Hiep Nam ward, Dong Hoa town). On board the boat were 8 crew members, departing on February 20, 2025 at Phu Lac fishing port.
At 1:45 p.m. the same day, while fishing in an area more than 200 nautical miles from the coast of Khanh Hoa, the PY95157TS ship was hit by the oil tanker BRONT SPEY (MMSI 538010885, nationality of the Republic of the Marshall Islands), sailing from Saudi Arabia in the South - North direction.
After causing the accident, the BRONT SPEY ship did not stop but continued its journey. The collision caused the fishing boat to lose engine, lose steering wheel and damage the cabin.
Immediately afterwards, fishing boat PY95221TS captained by Mr. Vo Chi Cu (born in 1983, residing in the same locality) quickly approached, supported to fix the problem and put all 8 crew members on the boat safely.
