Since the beginning of the year, African swine fever has appeared in 14 communes and wards in the province, forcing 1,035 pigs to be destroyed with a total weight of nearly 42 tons. The epidemic situation is complicated, causing heavy damage to livestock farming households and large-scale livestock businesses.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tay Ninh province, in the last week of July, two new outbreaks were discovered at the High-tech Pork Farming Enterprise Sagri Tan Chau (Tan Hoi commune) and a household in Binh Minh ward. This is a signal that the epidemic is still spreading if there are no timely control measures.
In Sagri Tan Chau, the authorities recorded 30 pigs with suspected symptoms of infection such as high fever, loss of appetite, cough and arthritis. Test results confirmed that 100% of samples were positive for African swine fever virus. Immediately afterwards, 258 pigs in the associated cages were destroyed with a total weight of more than 3.5 tons. The farm has also implemented disinfection measures, isolated the remaining herd, stopped importing new pigs and closely monitored the epidemic.
Similarly, in Binh Minh ward, Mr. Nguyen Van Quang - a small-scale livestock farming household - reported the death of 12 pigs within a week. After taking samples for testing and determining a high risk of infection with African swine fever, the entire herd of 47 pigs (more than 4 tons) was destroyed according to regulations. This area has also been temporarily blocked to ensure biosafety.
Faced with the risk of a widespread outbreak, the local agricultural sector is closely coordinating with the authorities of communes and wards to contain, control and prevent the spread. At the same time, the authorities recommend that people strictly implement biosafety livestock farming measures, regularly clean, disinfect barns and handle waste properly.
In particular, when detecting pigs with unusual signs or sudden death, people need to immediately report to the veterinary agency or local government for timely instructions on handling, avoiding the risk of widespread damage.
Proactive disease prevention and control is currently a key task of the Tay Ninh agricultural sector to protect livestock and stabilize agricultural production in the area.
