On the afternoon of September 16, information from the Thanh Hoa Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control said that from September 13 to September 16, moderate to heavy rain occurred in the province, with very heavy rain in some places. Common rainfall from 250 - 400mm.
Heavy rain caused the water level of many rivers to rise. At 3:00 PM on September 16, the water level of the Buoi River at Kim Tan hydrological station reached 11.81m, 0.19m below alarm level III; the Yen River at Chuoi station reached 3.37m, 0.13m below alarm level III. The Cau Chay River at Xuan Vinh was at 8.17m, 0.17m above alarm level I.
Faced with the developments of rain and floods, localities have proactively evacuated 191 households with 734 people living in areas at risk of being affected by natural disasters to safe places. People at evacuation points are provided with food and essential necessities.
According to preliminary statistics, in Kim Tan commune, there are 90 houses flooded below 1m. The whole province recorded 4 houses collapsed and damaged due to landslides and rolling rocks, but no casualties were injured.
On national highways and provincial roads, there are 10 landslide locations causing traffic jams, including 6 locations on national highways and 4 locations on provincial roads. In addition, 18 rural traffic locations were landslide and damaged; a positive taluy landslide point in Tam Lu commune caused traffic jams.
By the afternoon of September 16, there were still 30 localized flooding locations on national highways and provincial roads, of which 25 locations on provincial roads were flooded, causing congestion. On inter-village and inter-commune roads, there were 159 spillway locations flooded from 0.3m or more. Functional forces have set up barriers, installed warning signs and guided people to travel safely.
Heavy rain also caused 1,080ha of crops to be flooded, including 522.6ha of rice, 193.4ha of vegetables and 364ha of sugarcane; 4 low-voltage power poles were broken.
To overcome the consequences, the Provincial Military Command has mobilized more than 900 turns of officers and soldiers and vehicles to support localities. The Provincial Police mobilized 4,496 officers and soldiers to participate in response, helping people overcome the consequences of floods. Road and irrigation management units are focusing on handling landslides, drainage and ensuring traffic.
