Implementing the direction of the Government and the National Steering Committee on collecting martyrs' remains, in recent times, Thanh Hoa Provincial Police have coordinated with departments, branches and local authorities to conduct a general review, verification and collection of information about relatives of martyrs whose identities have not been identified.
To date, the whole province has recorded 37,720 martyrs with missing information, with 39,137 relatives needing samples for DNA testing.
The provincial police force has traveled hundreds of kilometers to remote, isolated and border areas to access and collect DNA samples.
As a result, 933 samples were sent to the genetic testing center. After analyzing and comparing with national data, 16 cases of suspected DNA matchmaking were initially discovered between the remains of martyrs at Duc Co Cemetery (Gia Lai) and relatives, including 2 cases from Thanh Hoa, martyr Trinh Van Hai (Thanh Loc Commune, Hau Loc District) and martyr Trinh Quang Lam ( Nga An Commune, Nga Son District).
Based on the results of the examination from the National Institute of Forensic Medicine, on June 27, 2025, the Department of Meritorious People officially announced the determination of DNA matchmaking between relatives and the remains of the two martyrs mentioned above.
This is a result of profound humanitarian significance, demonstrating the responsibility and morality of "remembering the source when drinking water", and at the same time showing the important role of the police force in the journey to "return the names" of the heroic martyrs.
Thanh Hoa is continuing to promote the collection of DNA samples to identify missing martyrs, responding to the Prime Minister's direction to complete the examination of more than 20,000 remains, striving to identify 60% of the martyrs in cemeteries.
This is a concrete step in implementing Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on the development of science, technology and national digital transformation.
