On May 25, An Don Ward Police (Quang Tri Town, Quang Tri Province) said that they had identified the man who saved the drowning victim on Thach Han River.
That is Mr. Le Ngoc Phuc (born in 1982, residing in An Don ward, Quang Tri town). We have contacted but have not been able to meet him directly yet, because Mr. Phuc is working in the outer province" - the leader of An Don Ward Police informed.
Over the phone, Mr. Phuc said he was on his way to Da Nang City to take wedding photos for customers. When asked about saving a drowning victim on the Thach Han River, he said "there is nothing big, it is normal".
Mr. Phuc said that on the morning of May 24, after taking photos for the customers, he returned home. When they reached the section crossing Thach Han bridge (An Don ward), there were a number of motorbikes and curious people looking down at the bridge.
Knowing that something was wrong, Mr. Phuc stopped the car and observed that there was a person living in the middle of the Thach Han River.
Seeing the distance from the bridge to the river was too large, he ran down to the riverbank and saw a boat anchored.
"I ran and screamed to save people, to save people" - Mr. Phuc said.
Luckily, the two people on the boat helped Phuc to the middle of the river. Phuc quickly took off his clothes and rushed into the water, when he approached, he lifted the victim and clung to the side of the boat to get to the shore.
When arriving at the shore, Mr. Phuc performed first aid, then asked the surrounding people to help until the ambulance arrived.
Mr. Phuc shared the surprise, "I am not good at swimming", but when he saw someone in the river in the middle of the border alive and dead, he just thought of finding a way to save him.
"After rescuing the woman, we went on a boat to greet each other, then each followed the other. I was happy to hear that the victim had escaped the danger" - Mr. Phuc shared.
According to Mr. Phuc, two people on the boat helped him save a drowning person named "Cu Anh" and a man about 50 years old, a local.
Regarding the incident, the Lao Dong newspaper had previously had an article "verifying the identity of a man who saved drowning on Thach Han River" information about 9am on 24.5, Ms. N.T.N.H (SN 1990, from Vinh Linh district, Quang Tri province) stopped the car on Thach Han bridge through An Don ward, then suddenly fell into the river. Those on the road witnessed the incident, a call for help, a man jumped into the river to rescue, took Ms. N.T.N.H to the shore and left. Understanding the information, the police of An Don ward conducted verification of the brave people to save drowned people to have a basis for proposal.
